About me

I'm Helen and I live in Bramley with my husband, daughter (4) and son (1). Sustainable food and farming has been a passion of mine for a long time — I've volunteered on farms in the UK and Canada, and I'm an enthusiastic (if not particularly successful) home veg grower.

Surrey Hills Larder grew out of a personal desire for easier access to good quality, locally grown food and a wish to connect local families with the brilliant producers growing it right on our doorstep. I work with some wonderful people — including Secretts Farm in Milford, Frensham Market Garden, Made by Madre bakery in Wonersh and Lee House Farm in Plaistow — and I'm always looking to add more local growers to the fold.

My vision is simple: produce from local people, grown with care and delivered straight to your door.

FAQs

The origin farm for every item will be listed in your box contents. I aim to source as close to home as possible and within a 25 mile radius of my home in Bramley. However, this is trickier at certain times of year (look up the "Hungry Gap") and some vegetables aren't grown locally, so to keep your box varied and plentiful year-round, I may source slightly further into Sussex and Kent.

For now, I'm offering a fixed box of seasonal vegetables sourced from local farms. The more customers who sign up, the more choice I'll be able to offer in the future — so the best way to shape what's on offer is to get involved early.

A veg box is required with every order — but if you'd rather not, you're welcome to buy direct from Made by Madre for bread and Lee House Farm for eggs, both available for collection.
